In Fall 2025, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Denver opened a water themed exhibition featuring artists Roni Horn and Deborah Jack.
After being invited to put together a donor event for the museum’s donor group, Contemporary Circles, I designed an exhibition themed event titled Current Events.
Event Description: Join MCA Denver for Current Conversations, a water themed dialogue bringing together experts from diverse fields to explore our connection to water, the complexities of access, and the state of water today. The evening begins with a conversation featuring lawyer, artist, cofounder, and water policy expert, Jorge Figueroa, State Representative and MCA Trustee, Leslie Herod, and Denver painter, sculpture, and muralist, David Ocelotl Garcia. A complimentary happy hour will follow, along with time to connect with fellow members and explore the exhibition.
Concept and scope: This event is a hosted conversation between MCA team members, community leaders, and artists to connect the current exhibition to the lives of Contemporary Circle (CC) members. Hosted at the museum, this acts as a guided conversation followed by a happy hour and time for guests to explore the exhibition. While the event can be modified based on interest, 40-50 members is the anticipated attendance.
Member and museum value:
Provides members the chance to connect directly with local thought leaders in an intentional, intimate setting.
Presents opportunities for the CC community to build deeper relationships with multiple levels of museum staff and leadership.
This event followed a ‘formula’ I created that brought together an MCA staff member, an MCA board member, a Denver community leader, and a local artist— a model that could be easily replicated for future exhibition themed events.
